Scalding Hot Ginger Tea
Ah! That cooling relief of running cold water over a burn or plunging hot skin into ice. The panic that starts to arise upon first impact with heat, and the calming breath of Quantum-Touch.
About a year ago, while recovering from a cold, I boiled some ginger in a pot to help soothe my throat, and when I went to pour the scalding hot tea into a mug, my hand slipped and, “Ow!” The hand holding the mug received a very unpleasant dousing and immediately protested with inflamed skin yelling.
I plunged my hand into a bowl of ice and immediately began running Quantum-Touch. The rhythm of the breath helped calm my panicky mind. After a few minutes, I went outside to my Aloe plant, which I had rescued months earlier. It had been lying unrooted on the side of the road with a gash where it seemed to have been plucked haphazardly and then abandoned. I took it home and replanted it near my garden fence where it liked to peek through. It was thriving and came to my rescue at moments like these.
I carefully cut off one stem and rubbed some of its precious juice on my burn while continuing to soak my hand and run energy. About an hour later, I really wanted to go to bed, as it was 1:30 in the morning, but when I removed my hand from the ice, it immediately protested as the pain was still pretty sharp. I rubbed on more Aloe and continued to run energy, but without the ice, the pain returned.
A Little Extra Help
I then had an idea. I decided to Google: What else helps with burns? To my surprise the answer came back: raw honey. Thankfully I had a jar available in my kitchen cabinet and I rubbed some on the burn, and wrapped my hand in a sock so as not to get honey everywhere. Ah, sweet relief!
It still burned a little, but was now tolerable. I continued to run energy as I lay down in bed, and soon the pain dissipated as I drifted off to sleep.
In the morning, when I awoke, the pain was gone! Not just that, but when I took the sock off my hand, I was stunned. My skin was clear. There were two tiny blisters forming, but barely there at all. I rubbed more honey on it and, as I drank my morning coffee, did some emotional processing. I gently felt somatically whatever emotions showed up and allowed the sensations to just do what they do. At that point the blisters were so minimal, I mostly forgot about it as I went about my day.
That night, I applied honey again, as a follow-up measure. The next morning when I unwrapped my hand, not a blister in sight!! Skin smooth, the area was completely healed. Today, I can’t even remember which hand it was!
A Glimpse of My Quick Recovery
A few days later, I got a glimpse of how quick my recovery actually was. I went to my dojo for Kung Fu classes, and one of my friends had her hand wrapped in a bandage. I remarked on it, and she said, “I burned it. It’s healing, but it’s slow. Of course I don't know how deep her burn was, but I just found the timing interesting.
