Interview with Richard Gordon

Q. You have been on the faculty at Heartwood Institute and the Holistic Health Institute, a practitioner for over 25 years in this field. Everyone seems to have 'their personal story' of why your path went down this road. Will you share that story with us?
RG. To make a very long story very short, about 30 years ago I was concerned about my numerous symptoms of ill health, and my doctor told me to wait till something serious developed. I thought this advice made about as much sense as waiting for the engine to blow up before dealing with a grinding noise from under the hood. I attended to the Christos School of Natural Healing in Taos New Mexico, studied polarity therapy, and eventually wrote, 'Your Healing Hands: The Polarity Experience,' a best seller now in nine languages. Around the time my book was being released, I learned about Quantum-Touch from Robert Rasmusson who had intuitively come across this method on his own. My old ideas of what was possible suddenly and radically to changed.
Q. Dr. C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D. (author, neurosurgeon and founding President of the American Holistic Medical Association) endorses your work in the following way, "Quantum Touch appears to be the first technique that may truly allow us all to become healers." There are many hands on healing techniques, what makes Quantum-Touch so different?
RG. Quantum-Touch is unique in how quickly and how powerfully lay people as well as professionals learn to do healing work. When Dr. Shealy tested Quantum-Touch, he wanted to see how it worked on his most difficult chronic pain patients with 20 and 30 years of constant chronic pain. These were people who had not been helped by any traditional or non-traditional therapy. I taught his staff to use Quantum-Touch and we gave these patients group-healing sessions. A week after I returned home, Dr. Shealy called me to tell me that the 30-70% pain relief his patients experienced from a single session had lasted over a week. This impressed him, and those who know Dr. Shealy say that he is not easily impressed. Dr Norman Shealy wrote the foreword of my book, and now includes Quantum-Touch as part of a course for graduate students at Greenwich University.
One of the unique qualities of Quantum-Touch is that it elegantly works in conjunction with any other healing modality, and is a great stand alone therapy as well. Chiropractors tell me that it is an advanced form of chiropractic since bones glide back into alignment with only a light touch. Acupuncturists, naturopaths, osteopaths, physical therapists, Reiki masters, chi gung, cranial sacral practitioners... you name it, they all tell me that this work transforms their practice. Quantum-Touch allows people to easily hold an extremely high vibration in their hands through breathing and body awareness exercises. This can cause a field of energy that can profoundly accelerate healing in organs, glands and tissues of the body; pain and inflammation are rapidly reduced as a consequence of the healing.
Q. I understand that Dr. Shealy also tested Quantum-Touch to see if it could affect people's brain wave patterns from a distance. Can you explain distant healing with Quantum-Touch?
RG. Norm Shealy had a history of testing what he termed 'world class healers' like Olga Worall, and he found that some of them could actually affect brain wave patterns at a distance. So while I was in his clinic, he wanted to see if I could do it too. He was somewhat delighted that I was able to profoundly affect brain waves patterns, but what really amazed him was that all of his staff members who I had trained, were also able to affect EEG readings. "Isn't it great," I told him "that your secretary, your accountant and one of your nurses all happen to be 'world class healers'." You see, we are all truly connected, and its not just some sort of new age pep talk. Energy really does follow thought. Our love has more impact than anyone knows, and when you learn to direct the life-force energy, the possibilities are truly extraordinary.
Q. Your training invokes the 'secret of resonance' (intention, attention, breath and innate body intelligence) that bones, cells and systems effortlessly respond. This 'secret of resonance', is this LOVE?
RG. This truly embodies the essence of what makes Quantum-Touch effective. The practitioner learns to hold a high vibration in their hands, then through resonance and entrainment, the person you are working with matches that vibration with you. Their body does it's own healing - the practitioner just holds a resonance. You see, the definition of a great healer is someone who was very sick and got well quickly. All the practitioner does is hold that vibration This is why you really can't heal anybody else. Everyone heals themselves. By holding a high vibration, the practitioner never becomes drained or sick from doing the work.
Q.Is LOVE energy?
RG. Of course. There is only love, or a lack of love. It's just like light, there is either light or a lack of light that some people call darkness.
Q.Can you liken this to a mothers love for her child?
RG. Yes, or the love you have for a spouse, a friend, a pet, or even a project. Love is the underlying force that motivates us. We don't have to try to be in a loving mood to do great healing work, since love is your nature. Similarly, water doesn't have to try to be wet, it is simply its nature. Once you understand that, feeling your love can only make the healing work better.
Q.You teach practitioners to learn to hold a high vibration in their hands. Do we all have this 'high' vibration? Are you just activating it?
RG. This high vibration gets activated through simple and powerful breathing techniques and body awareness exercises. Everyone succeeds since the techniques are so easy and natural to do, and our ability to run energy is truly hardwired into us. There are no attunements or special things you need to learn or receive from a master.
Q. You guarantee results. I have never seen this statement make with such aggression. How does the traditional medical community respond?
RG. The funny thing is that I'm finding more acceptance from physician and naturopathic schools than I'm getting from chiropractors and acupuncture schools. Quantum-Touch is now part of the curricula at a naturopathic college and there are moves to get me into an osteopathic college. The chiropractors and acupuncture institutions seem to be quite worried about maintaining their credibility at this time. Despite the fact that individual chiropractors and acupuncturists love my classes, and joyfully integrate the work, their institutions are not yet open to going in this direction.
Yes, I guarantee that everyone will be able see that they can move bones into alignment with a light touch, or they can have all their money back. I offer this to help people get over their fear of failure, and to demonstrate my confidence that everyone can learn to do this. The truth is that everyone who wants to move bones with a light touch are able to on the first day of class. I get a lot of joy watching people measure a standing person's hips, clearly identify that one hip is over an inch higher on one side, then moments later, just touching the hips, become astounded that the bones just melted back into place. By the way, since no force is used, the adjustments tend to last a very long time or may even be permanent. Since no invasive force is generated, the body does not push against the change.
Q. Your endorsement form Duane Garner, UCSC Men's Basketball Team, "In my vast experience, I've never seen anything to compare with the positive results of Quantum-Touch. It enabled affected team members to resume competitive play in a very brief period of time following an injury, and the improvements seemed to continue even after the therapeutic session," gives me great hope. To have your work accepted in 'main stream American' would bring divine healing to our world. I have been in many hospitals where the exit door would be shown to you pronto.
RG. It is our dream to have this work become mainstream. But as of yet, we are still nearly invisible. We have Quantum-Touch practiced in a hospital in Pennsylvania were we are greatly improving blood oxygen levels of patients during surgery. This is particularly interesting because the patients are under general anesthesia and should not be responding to a "placebo". We see patients with reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome responding well to sessions their too. This delights doctors, since they have no useful treatment for this population of patients. Times are changing. As more and more nurses learn to do this work, and as we get studies published, I'm sure the doors will open in time. I happen to be quite fond of the bumper sticker wisdom that says, "when the people lead, the leaders will follow."
Q. So often when we introduce something into the children world, we get the attention of the parents. Can this be taught to children? Could you incorporate this in our school systems? Can we use this on ourselves?
RG. Children just love this work, and I often have kids in my classes. It really seems to be something that boosts a child's self-esteem to see that they can do something so completely amazing. I want the kids to know that the world is a magical place and they are fully capable doing wonderful things.
Q. Hand on healing is part of all ancient teachings. Why are you billing this as an inspiring new technique?
RG. You are right the work is ancient. When you see professional healers of countless modalities suddenly transformed in their ability, it is quite inspiring. In one of my classes, a student told me that what I was really teaching was a variation of the ancient Huna healing method that she had learned as a child. She was taught to believe that only people from the royal Hawaiian families could do it. Apparently Bob Rasmusson had stumbled across this ancient knowledge when he discovered this technique. What is new and inspiring to you or me, my actually be quite old.
Q. Can Quantum-Touch be integrated into all healing work? Would a physiologists or psychologist use your work?
RG. Yes, I firmly believe that Quantum-Touch can and in fact should be integrated into a wide range of modalities. The impact this has on physiology is immediate, obvious and profound. I further believe that we will eventually have a major impact in the field of psychology. When two people run energy into someone's head, within five or six minutes, most people move into incredibly deep states of mediation, and their eyes move involuntarily. When people wake up after a 15 minutes session, it is like rebooting the brain. People become totally refreshed. The traumas and fears seem to have temporarily melted away. As people work to strengthen their positive identifications, by the end of a weekend workshop, no one in the room seems to care even a little bit about the past. I've been told that getting over the past is the central goal of most psychotherapy. Perhaps we have an elegant way of getting there.
Q. "The process is so fluid that the bones seem to glide or 'melt' back into alignment." Do you have before and after x-rays to demonstrate this?
RG. Yes, we have some x-rays in my book that show the cranial bones before and after a session. Sometimes this is so dramatic, that when running energy into the occipital ridge, the orbitals may quickly move and people may see the world suddenly tip sideways for a second until the brain compensates and makes things level again. Bones in the body move because the body wants the bones in a new position. The practitioner doesn't have to figure out where they go any more than you have to know how to digest your lunch. We just let their body intelligence figure it out.
Q. I understand that people who come to your lectures receive demonstration sessions. How does that work?
RG. When I lecture I like to have some of my students there. Time permitting, I like to see that everyone in the audience receive demonstration sessions. Even in a short 5-minute demonstration, most people will experience a remarkable shift in symptoms. Those who do not experience this, will often notice changes by the next morning. Your own experience often is far more meaningful than anything I can say.
Q. What do you see as the future of energy healing?
RG. I believe that one day, people will realize that life-force is real. When life-force energy is studied, it will have a profound impact on our understanding of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and psychology. I further believe that in time, a new branch of science I like to call "life-force science" will be established, embracing all the various modalities. I imagine healing will be taught in every school, practiced in every institution, and studied in every university. One day, ordinary people will know that healing is real and that everyone can do it. I envision a time when people know that our love is immensely powerful, and that our first impulse is to share that love. Finally, I believe that this is the world we are creating, and I welcome everyone who wants in.Get Started With QT Now >
